Trigger 101
I've just finished my first play. How do I know if it's in the right format before I upload?
* When formatting your Play, please reference the following guidelines before you upload:
* Page size should be standard US letter size (8.5"x11")
* Margins should be 1.5" on the left and to 1" on the right, top and bottom.
* Plays should be no less than 80 pages.
* Plays should be no more than 120 pages. NOTE: Cover and preliminary pages (if used) shouldn’t factor into your page count.
* Page numbers should be in the top right corner of each page and should start with Act I Scene 1. Some formatting gurus suggest numbering your play straight through. Others say each act is numbered consecutively through the end of an Act: I-1, I-2, I-3 and that the numbering for Act II begins again from scratch: II-1, II-2, II-3, etc. Either is acceptable here.
* Use only Courier 12 point font.
* Do not include contact info on the cover page.
* CHARACTERS, SETTING, TIME and SCENE BREAKDOWN sections following the title page are optional, but not mandatory parts of the play format. Their inclusion in your finished play is completely at your discretion.
* As your plays are going to be reviewed by others on the quality of your writing, not on your abilities as a graphic designer, publisher, etc., do not use pictures or graphics.
* Only PDF files are accepted for Play uploads
You can also use the following PDF file as a reference guide when formatting your play. (optional, as mentioned above) Also, a helpful link related to Stage Play manuscript format with examples is located here. While a good resource to get examples of what a play looks like when written on a page, there is no "Universal Format" for plays, so in searching the internet for your own resources or formatting aids, or even in looking at this link we've provided, please keep in mind that if you are provided with different page spacing or margin sizes, please use the ones we have provided here and in the linked PDF format guide.
